Painting "Springtime" is a portrayal of the beauty of a tree by a lake on a spring morning. Painting is done inspired by Warli art- Indian Folk Art.
The warli style is used as Mural paintings in India. Tribal people use this art form to decorate the outside walls of their houses. Warli is a rudimentary painting style that uses a very basic graphic vocabulary: a circle, a triangle, and a square. The circle and triangle come from observation of nature; the circle representing sun and moon, the triangle is derived from mountains and pointed trees. Only the square seems to obey a different logic and appears to be a human invention, indicating sacred enclosures or a piece of land. I like to use this style to narrate day-to-day stories and also my childhood memories.
Painting is done on a heavily textured clay board. In this particular piece, I have used heavy gesso to build up the stucco-like texture. Characters are painted with Acrylics. The fine details are achieved with 000 brushes. Painting is double-coated with Gloss varnish to protect from UV rays. The sides f the painting are painted white. Painting is signed and wired in the back and is ready to hang.
